Suspected Fulani herdsmen yesterday killed one of the daughter of Afenifere, the Pan Yoruba socio- political group’s leader, Chief Reuben Fasoranti. The Yoruba leader’s daughter, Mrs Funke Olakunrin, was travelling along the Benin/Ore expressway when she alongside others ran into the hands of the suspected Fulani herdsmen, who have been terrorising the axis of the road.
According to report, Olakunrin was coming from Lagos axis of the road and was on his way to Akure, the Ondo State capital when she met the untimely death.
He further stated that there was a shootout between the suspected gunmen and the police who tried to rescue the victims along the road notorious for accident and kidnapping. The three vehicles attacked by the assailants, Joseph included a Land Cruiser jeep with Registration number AAA 147 KM, one Toyota Camry car and one Young Shall Grow bus. adding that the person in the Land Cruiser jeep was killed while eight persons were abducted in the vehicles. however, he said the Police were able to rescue seven of the kidnapped victims. According to Joseph, one Gerald Ibuoyikha was kidnapped by the suspected herdsmen. he also said the seven people who were injured and rescued, were in the Police custody.
The spokesman of Afenifere, Mr Yinka Odumakin, said the action of the Fulani herdsmen showed they have declared war on Yoruba land. and lamented that the Yoruba would not take this anymore and people should expect reactions over the killing of a daugh-ter of the Afenifere leader.
